Big Picture: Personal Data Protection Bill

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday asked card companies American Express and Diners Club International not to get new domestic customers onboard from May 1 as they did not adhere to the guidelines on local data storage.

“These entities have been found non-compliant with the directions on storage of payment system data", the RBI said in a notification on its website. This local data storage obligation is similar to the one proposed under the Personal Data Privacy Bill which were objected to by MNCs.

So, ultimate truth is we are not having the personal data protection bill and we are going to have it, thats it. I wounder, the countries who have this type of law is fully happy and they are all not compromised their data or what? Mere law on digital data is a conceptual room without wall. Long back we have errected the Door for that room that is telecom infra. We are not thinking to build walls for that room that is indiginous infrastructure. Everything foreign, the hardware, operating system, softwares applications, the routers, the data centers, so on. But it is our land, we will have our own law. Great. Hope one day we will have walls for our digital room too.
