Out of all the fighter planes in history whether it be a P-47 Thunderbolt or a P-51 Mustang or an F4U Corsair the most beautiful and the most deadly here we are almost 40 years later and in a dog fight nothing can compare to the F-16 hands down the best!

I was in the AF at Eielson AFB, AK back in 1976 when this aircraft was being cold weather tested. Watching that vertical flight was amazing back then.

Wrenched the very first ones at Luke AFB in the early 80's, comm, nav, ecm specialist. This was an everyday thing and it's still cool as hell 40 years later.

Looks like the jet just came out of major maintenance and the pilot's performing an FCF, functional check flight. The take off profile and completely clean configuration, no tanks, not even wingtip missiles is the give away.

The f16 really is a masterpiece. Their ubiquity tends to make us take it for granted but make no mistake, it's up there with the P51D, 747 and SS Normandie as a engineering and artistic collective act if genius.
