2010 Toyota Corolla VVTI rattle noise 1

Показать описание
this is the noise that you will hear when your VVTI sprocket needs to be replaced. This noise will happen when the engine is cold and you'll only for hear it for about 1 second. Once the oil starts circulating the noise stops. When you start it a second time you will not hear the noise due to oil remaining in the upper sections of the engine.

That engine sounds good!!! I've heard worst from those engines and they went on to live another 100k plus miles!!!*

I fixed the above noise issue by replacing the intake vvti control gear/sprocket. Make sure you use only genuine toyota part. As I did not and had to do it twice.

If the speed of tapping does not march that of crankshaft pulley, then it should be from camshafts. Note camshafts are slower than crankshaft. Use a long screw driver plug it to your ears and press it against the tappet cover where the camshaft is located. The position with pronounced noise will indicate the component.* Don't do that to moving parts or electrical positions.

its the vvti camshaft gear responsible withe the time advancing. the oil pressure inside the gear is too little on startup due to a dirty/clogged small spring that engages and locks the gear

Cam shaft gear assembly needes replace and check the guide and change guide too, common for most toyota

I would live with it, it shouldn’t go out any time soon and by the time it would the car most likely will be really old or already decommissioned

2013 Toyota recall.
Intake cam gear fucked.
But don't worry, new one won't last more than 12 months

he 2010 Toyota Corolla makes a noise when starting the car for the first time. However, if I turn off the car and start it again, there is no noise. After driving it 10 times and parking for more than an hour, starting it again doesn't produce any noise. The noise only occurs when the car has been parked for more than 8 to 10 hours.

Is the engine still running fine ? Based on internet and youtube, It seems like this only happen in cold weather or
car has been stayed for over 8-10 hours. Thanks for the video.

I had the same issue with the cam gear. There's a video on here somewhere showing a guy took the valve cover off, took the plate off the intake cam gear and stretched the spring to apply more pressure to the pin that locks the cam gear in place when the motor stops running. he actually added a small spring from a pen to add a little extra pressure. I did what he showed me and it was pretty straight forward. cost me some new gaskets but that's about it. I didn't have to buy a replacement cam gear and it can be done in under an hour.

how about the rattle at the second start? i have that identical rattle in my 2019 rx350 with only 15k. it's been a nightmare trying to get it fixed through the dealership and ive spent hundreds of hours on youtube now trying to find the answer and this is the first video i found that has it. i can hear it on the 3rd start too but not as good as the second. i cant hear it on the first start. is that light rattle normal?

Try using Pennzoil Platinum / Ultra oil and a anti-friction oil additive, Prolong, Bestline or Motorkote .

My Toyota Altis 1ZR engine makes this noise on cold startup and stops after 6-7 seconds. I changed my timing chain tensioner for this, but it didn't solve the problem. I have seen a lot of comments here like VVT Actuator failing, Camshaft timing gear fault etc etc. Could someone really guide on what noise is this and how to fix this?
