the not fetching water cause “he’s a boy” is literally something i’ve heard throughout my entire childhood. oh no he can’t wash the dishes he’s a boy. oh no he can’t lay the table he’s a boy. oh no he can’t help with cooking he’s a boy. and even the water bit too!! (when we were visiting relatives in the countryside). from then on i have a crippling aversion to doing anything around the house if my husband isn’t doing it, too. he can wash the dishes for three weeks straight but then i cook and clean for like three days and i get absolutely mad with rage.
needless to say if we ever have kids, they are helping with chores equally regardless of their gender.

I wish the movie actually based her character on how she acted historically. She was never called some outgoing feminist. She was reserved and most likely depressed. She kept to her self and spent most of her adult life writing. Before she died she asked her sister to burn all her work, she didn’t want fame or anything. When she died her sister didn’t burn them and that’s why we are familiar with her work.
