Russian Mi-8 Pilot 'Defects' To Ukraine After 6-Month Intel Operation, Or Did Crew 'Lose Bearings'?

A Russian Mi-8 helicopter has ended up in Ukraine, reportedly as a result of a long-term Ukrainian intelligence special operation. The Mi-8 belonged to the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) and it was reportedly transporting undisclosed parts for Su-27 and Su-30SM fighters. The helicopter landed somewhere near Poltava during a flight between two Russian air bases, as per reports. Watch the video to find out more.

Your picture of the helicopter is actually an MI-17, ....NOT an MI-8. The MI-8 has the tail rotor on the right hand side of the tail.& the MI-17 has the tail rotor on the left side of the tail The engines are lower power than the MI-17, the exhaust stack are circular, while the MI-17 has oval exhaust stacks, The rotor head is different from the 17, the avionics are different ..& on it goes. The MI-8 is an excellent chopper, & reliable. The MI-17 uses a beefed up MI-8 airframe, newer, more powerful engines, different rotor head & blades, lifts more, carries more, & has a host of improvements over the older MI-8.
