I may appear harsh in this video, but I do believe that this CFW will skyrocket to becoming a top favorite once it gets stable and more bug-free. For now, though, I tested it out, and this is my experience with it.

Knulli overall has amazing potential as a future CFW (and not only because it's already compatible with a slew of devices like the Anbernic RG35XX H, RG35XXSP, RG28XX, TrimUI Smart Pro). I can't wait to see it develop.

Just for clarification, there is a reason the roms partition is in ext4: it solves the battery drain issue that was already present in the batocera releases. I’m currently on v40 and formatted both sd cards to ext4 from the get go and upload roms via network. It can be really annoying to new users and these problems should be solved by the team but i don’t mind, i like the os, obviously using muOS or stock would be the clear answer but i’m personally waiting on more development of the systems before taking any firm decision on what to use

By the time this video was published, the quickstart guide on the wiki clearly laid out all the steps - including ext4 (and how easy it is to access), remapping the buttons, how to use a dual card configuration (which I chose). I'm a total n00b when it comes to these - this is my first retro gaming device, and had no major issues beyond understanding the N, S, E, W buttons :). Once you quickly learned what needed to be, why not just re-start and use one SD card? That would have saved you all the pain with Portmaster? Lastly, as a nerd, doing a summary of installing WSL 2 would have shown everyone how easy it is to mount the ext4 card in Windows 11.

I agree it's still got some rough edges, but I think the guide on the wiki would help most people avoid them.

So if I don't mind ext4 file system (Steam Deck <3) and I use a single SD card (and therefore have no issues with Portmaster) there's no big downside to picking Knulli over MuOS?

knulli definitely has a lot of great potential but for now i dont think it should be treated as anything more than an experimental pre alpha

Just installed the newest release on a RG40xx H I bought for my Mom. No mapping was needed. It's pretty awesome so far. Once I got used to it, I find the wireless internet rom transfer method is actually a lot better than using a dongle. I can modify titles, and refresh the games list right away. On device scraping is next level, IMO. Still using MuOS on my RG35xxh because its fast boot, quick shutdown and auto resume, but Knulli is mother flippin awesome RN. Gameplay video preview while browsing is awesome!

Solution for the ext4-problem is to format the partition to exFat using the free Minitool Partition Wizzard 12 on Windows...

Yeah, i'm with you. After I finished getting set up (including cloud saves) I had a thought that I probably would have just been fine with the stock OS on the RG35XXSP, even without cloud saves. I had a rough time getting set up on Android 14 and it was still only half as difficult as using Knulli. That said, I expect it will get better and I'm keeping it on my device for now.

Was just wondering about this. Your video uploaded just in time!

In muOS you can put your rooms in any sort of folder but in knulli you gotta figure out which of the 50+ folders you gotta put them in, so annoying

Wow, after all that tinkering to night, I finally got it up and running. But Ouch. What a pain in the backside. This is not as easy as it looks And on the RG28XX It's not a walk in a park to get this firmware up and running, but it. looks clean once you get it installed. Be sure and listen very well to what he says, because you have to go in and point the SD card to the games. after that you should be up and ready to go. Thank God for someone that gives it a good review like this and tells properly how to install this operating system, although it's not the best, it looks much better than the stock O. S.

Great channel. You're always on point. On the RG28xx, Knulli doesn't load Dreamcast games. It's a bummer. I really like this interface but no point if you can't play your favorite games. I'm going back to the Anbernic's OS for now. Let's hope they fix all that.

To BE honest it needs dual Card config. Cause of Ext4 shananigans but since it has OTA Over the board you can build and scrape and when it his better simply update. Portmaster is a hot mess because of that i go for MU OS. But this hás the higest potencial

Fortunately for me my experience with Knulli on the SP so far has been really good.

To add my ROMs I connect my SP to the internet, then access it from my PC's Network section in file explorer. Click on KNULLI device, and I'm done. The transfer speeds are fast. I only play N64 and below on the SP, so PPSSPP issues aren't a concern for my experience on the SP. I use other devices for those games. Portmaster on my SP has been great. Sonic Mania, Apotris, Celeste Classic, and Space Cadet Pinball work flawlessly. Performance issues only occur with some more demanding titles like Sonic RB2 Kart, which runs at 5fps. I hope they fix the display output compatibility though. While I'll never use it, I plan to gift an SP to my nephew who might want to use it on his TV and I don't want him to run into hard to fix issues.

Some of the problems you had migrated from V40. In most of the cases I've researched and helped people fix, they seem to be "glued" and a bit worse in Knulli early updates. I totally agree that it needs some more tweaking/polishing, it is hard work indeed, but, think we'll be compensated soon.

I came from V40 and hated muOS UI, but with all the muOS newest upgrades it became my favourite CFW. Even as a Knulli supporter, I couldn't muster the courage to try it again. Hope that better news come soon and I surely don't want Knulli to be facing the three underworld judges haha.

I think you are being a little bit harsh . It is after all a cfw where people take their own time making it without any payments. Making it work is not as simple as "editing a config file" like you said. it involves drivers, coding in C and much more. if its as simple as editing a config file i am pretty sure it would have be done by now.
compiling the knulli image from source takes up to 6 hours in my beefy pc . so testing everyone of these changes would take ages.
