When I taught myself it was pretty much the equivalent of a university education. I then went on to concentrate a particular area.

1. Seriously learn how to speak to people.
2. Every body can learn about a technical side anytime of the day but can you learn how to interact with people and be a collaborative player.

Those two things I learnt which made me the get the job, so if you’re self taught and shy, consider working on those things.

Actually, this is true. My mind goes like, omg if I want to compete in the market I have to learn so many technologies, but if I get good at one thing would be much easier to get a job.

Also they don’t learn basic CS concepts such as algorithms, data structures, design patterns, databases. I mean you don’t have to be 100% proficient just learn the basics and practice. It will even help you build more well structured and optimized apps which increases the possibility of getting hired.

Yes totally agree it’s like self studiers are a shot gun blast of what to study. While you can focus on one area like a guided missile.
