This basic starter ball drive setup was used on quite a few Homelite saws, such as: 5-30N, 7-29, 8-29, 9-23, 9-26, 700D, 707D, 770D, 775D, 900D, 900G, 909D, 909G, 990D, 990G, EZ-6. Some of the parts may be slightly different, but the service procedure should be pretty close to the same.

The old briggs and straten 3.5 hp moters have a similar ball clutch for the starter .

Awesome video, I am glad that you didn’t cut out any of the frustrations that one person goes to putting these things together makes your videos very real, thanks 😊

What are those shims you are using? I've been trying to find some for my 770D homelite

I recognize that crap - a late 60’s Homelite. It looks a lot like the Zip I got from my father after he died. Don’t you just love that cartridge air filter, like something that came on a Tecumse garden tiller. That starter has the same type of Rube- Goldberg mechanism with the little spring loaded levers that had to dig into the hub to crank the saw. If they did not have sharp edges on them you could not crank the saw. It looked like something the Brits designed, functional when new but far from reliable.

What an incredibly complex recoil and starter assembly.

Blue coil of death for $55 - $60 today is more than I'd like to pay, never mind in '95! Bet you didn't know of baking them then. lol
