The winter of 1692 would begin an actual witch hunt in the colonies around Salem, Massachusetts. After several girls in the colony exhibited fits of seizures, convulsions, and outbursts, accusations of other colonists consorting with the devil would run rampant. Those found guilty of the crime of witchcraft would be sentenced to death. The Salem Witch Trials would only end when the governor's wife would be accused of the same crime. How convenient for a politician to call off the trials after one of his own is caught up in the hysteria and religious zealotry. The Salem Witch Trials will always hold a place in Horrible History.
