About OFF GRID with DOUG and Stacy
In 2010 we decided to sell everything and build a log cabin on 11 acres. We have lived in the log cabin for a decade now with no solar power or wind power plus zero public utilities. We live like the pioneers except in the 21st century. We post videos on social media to encourage people to return to the land and make a living with your family. We teach folks:
*Off grid living *Rain water catchment *Cooking with wood
*Food growing *Cooking from scratch *Raised bed gardening
*Food harvesting *fermenting the harvest *food preservation
*Holistic Remedies like Grandma made *How to make money and live this life

As a mother and Homesteader I love learning from the both of you. I have become so knowledgeable about so many things to help take care with our family of 9. Thanks for sharing. Much love from our little homestead in South Mississippi.

Simmer organic (3) lemon and (3) grapefruit peels covered in filtered water for three hours, lid on. Leave covered until cool, strain and refrigerate. One tablespoon in water (I also add a little lemon juice and maple syrup) as a morning drink to take my vitamins. This is known as hydroxychloraquine.

Lemon water is a fabulous diuretic, if you happen to be "puffy prone" or just old (like me). Hey, old happens. 😂

I also dehydrate citrus peels and blend them into a powder. Sometimes I keep orange and lemon, lime all separate, but other times I just mix them all together. Use in cooking or baking, or add to tea, so many uses! You know, the kids think I'm nuts saving everything like I do, but I will keep on and hope that later on they will remember some of the things I do and become resourceful, especially as times get harder.

I use lemon peels for hair rinse. I let the peels soak in water for a couple days then use as a rinse 🦋 leaves your hair soft and works better than store bought hair rinse that has all those chemicals in them, and I also use this on my face and body. Another thing I do is use avocado on my face which works well too! I scrape the inside of the avocado skin and use that part that's left after I remove what I want to eat ☺️

I love that. If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin. I use coconut oil as a moisturizer.

I put my lemon peels in vinegar and after soaking about 30 days, I grind it up and use it to clean everything!! Recently, we’ve been drying the rinds to grind up dry and use the powder for cooking!!

I grate them in my salads…. Freeze whole lemon and then right before you serve salad grate some lemon in… refreshing on hot days 💗

This comment comes months after I started saving my orange, grapefruit and lemon peels in vinegar in glass jars. I initially started simmering these peels in water with cinnamon and cloves on the stove as as air freshener when the weather allowed the heat. Then I stored the liquid in the glass jars. It is the most wonderful cleaner! Smells wonderful, cleans every bit as good as the commercial C cleaners, because I compared both! Basically free, after I enjoyed the citrus in recipes! Win win win!

Something I like to do, is to freeze my lemon peels with certain vegetable "scraps" (onions, garlic, carrot, ginger, celery, etc.). Then whenever I poach chicken, I add the lemon peels and other vegetables to the pot. It makes very yummy broth and no waste!

Love it!!! The problem is that so many lemons have pesticides on them which can not be removed with water... so make sure you clean your lemons with vinegar before use.

Ha! I just made your fermented lemonade, and I had a bunch of lemon peels left over, and SOMETHING told me not to compost them just yet, so I stuck them in my fridge! Thanks for all the tips! They will now be put to great use.

I take used lemon peels and rub them on my stainless steel sink and faucets.
it takes off hard water stains and makes them shiny again -not to mention the lemony rinse water refreshes the drain😊 thanks for all the ideas Stacy! Definitely going to try the foot soak!

More good lessons. I use citrus peels in tea, and to clean cutting boards already, but the others I was not aware of! Way to go Stacy, thank you!

Love all these ideas. Lol. I burst out laughing when I heard you sing ‘Butter”. Who knew that a homesteader would know K-pop?!! 😆

I just love and appreciate you guys so much! I use a lemon baking soda scrub on my face once a week. I rub a banana peel on my face and it is a great moisturizer and full of vitamins. I get lots of compliments on my skin. My husband had several kidney stones. The doctor recommended drinking lemon water because it helps dissolve the crystals that form stones. He hasn’t had one since.

You can use limes (which I use more than lemons) as well! Thank you for the great ideas!!!!

I like to make potpourri with them as well. I put lemon peels, orange peels, cinnamon stick, 2 bay leaves, whole cloves, and two sprigs of our evergreen tree in an old pot that lost it's handle. I add water and put it on the stove to add humidity to the air and make my home smell wonderful. I had this boiling recently, and my guest asked if they could drink some because it smelled so good. :) I love all the examples that you shared. I will have to try a few of them with my next batch of peels.
