Navy's nuclear program is one of the best USN training pipelines available (imho, of course). When I went through the program, Admiral Rickover ran the show (and run it well, he did). It was much tougher then, not just because of the "Rickover Way" necessarily, but today teaching technique, training aids and documentation are so much better! My instructors in the mid-70s took me from "Algebra 1", the highest level math I took in High School, all the way to calculus ... in the span of 6 months. If they could do that for me back then, imagine what they can do for you today! :)

Joining the Navy as a Nuclear sailor is one of the best decisions I ever made. I grew up in poverty and now have a life style I could only dream of as a young man.

I was a staff pick up on the 635 over 25 years ago. It looks like the facilities have come a long way.

At 46 seconds is my son's new training location. It only took, an ASVAB (As-Vab / military S.A.T) score of 93rd percentile, six months of 6o to 90 hour weeks to get through A-School (electricians with a nuclear power specialty), and again in nuclear Power School ("baby nukes"). Now he is in Prototype School (retired submarine O.J.T.).

Back in the day, if you qualified early, you stood watches as a "Qualified Student" and had students UI with you, the same as any other NPTU instructor. I'm not sure if that is the way they still do it, but I would guess that it is.

Becoming a nuke was the worst thing I've ever done... but that experience was the single most maturing, bonding, and life changing experience i've ever had. It sucks. it's full of ridiculous beuaracracy and will shave years off of your life, but suffering like that is the single most unifying and formative experience I've had. If you want real change, are directionless and relatively smart, then this a patheay that will give you results. Its not fun and you might contemplate suicide, but the most treasured moments i have are the hilarious and bonding bits that my friends and i have ever had. Also.. looks great on any application.

When I went through training at NPTU Charleston, it was one of the most toxic work environments I have ever had to deal with. I saw instructors get into fist fights with each other, lots of sexual harassment towards female students, and general unacceptable behavior all around. I was bit shy and had instructors literally ask me if I was sexually abused as a child and laughed about it. I hope that the US Navy took an active role in cleaning up a training facility that was WAY BELOW US Navy standards when I was enlisted.

No, this is not a disgruntled flunked student. I passed NPTU and made it to a submarine as a nuke.

Do Navy nuclear sailors glow in the dark?

Being a nuke isn’t all bad, but if I could do some things again knowing what I now know about being a nuke and myself- I would not have joined the Navy, much less, joined as a nuke. I would have not taken the promotion after A school. I would not have accumulated crap before I got to the fleet. I would have volunteered for submarines versus being assigned to the IKE that was in the shipyard. Know yourself and know if you are qualified to be a nuke, with some imagination, you can do nearly anything that requires a brain.

Yesterday, I brought a book called The Life Story of ABE. It reminded me of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. I brought the book and told the lady at the bookstore that he was assassinated, shot in the back. Today I was woken up this afternoon by a black voice that said outside my bedroom window it was the U.S. Navy that assassinated Shinzo Abe. I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas on North Garland Ave. Attacks like these occur often and shouldn't. I made the move from the NYC area to Fayetteville, Arkansas a little over a year ago from NYC. I believe this man is linked to organized crime in NYC gang. My U.S. Navy does not assassinate prime ministers especially ones that our allies. I would like this investigated by NCIS. He insulted the honor of the United States Navy and is probably linked to that assassination with a gang from NYC etc... and also the other terrorist acts in NYC such as the Navy Seal parachute that didn't open and he fell to his death in NYC that holiday etc...

Fascinating. One forgets that this exists everywhere where there is a ‘nuclear’ navy……🇬🇧

Would not recommend. Go to school, or honestly just get any decent civilian job with room to develop skills for 6 years instead.
