I know this is a JRPG channel, but Metroidvanias are my favorite genre. Gotta love the resurgence that’s going on now with indie developers. Happy 35th anniversary to the lady that started it all, Samus Aran

There’s a few of these that I wouldn’t consider Metroidvanias (Mega Man, Zelda, etc) but still a great list! If you DO want to play a Mega Man Metroidvania game, check out Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent!

I seriously feel bad for anyone who wasn't able to play Battle of Olympus. Quasi-Historical Metroidvania...Yes Please! In the immortal words of famous 21st century Poet Da Vid (French) he writes, 'would **** **** for a good Historical Metroidvania.'

I still have nothing but fond memories of Mega Man, especially Mega Man 2. And it still counts as one of those soundtracks that immediately makes me smile. Wily stages? Best music ever.

I wish they'd make more Zelda 2 style games. With some refinement, it could be really amazing.

Magic of Scheherazade was one of those games that I saw several times in magazines as a kid, but didn't actually get to play until I was much older. On the other hand, Clash at Demonhead, Faxanadu, and Legacy of the Wizard were games that I played a TON of a kid. I can still go back and play any of those three, and still have a blast. Great list!

"I'm horrible at jumping"...that's why I never play ANY Mario title. The anxiety of timing a jump just kills me. (DK Country as well). Again, way to push through on Earthbound!

great list, Faxanadu is one of all time favorite, When I played for the first time I was complete inmersed in the whole lore, the story of a meteorite that caused the water to poison, and all the staged divided in parts of a giant tree, the passwords were hard to write down correctly.

Feel like the genre has gotten good again in the last so many years especially in the indie scene. Stuff like Luna Nights are legit fun, unique, and only take a few hours.

Also I can say that they kept the design a robot thing going in the battle network games.

Youre the first list that I've personally seen which included Magic of Scheherazade. That game was so good for the time it was released, and is even fun today.

You should try out Blaster Master Zero. It's basically a remake with some enhancements, a save system, and a special ending if you collect 100% of the power-ups. They even made an original sequel to it, which is even better, plus a third game is set to come out soon.

"We need to get back to just playing games." I couldn't agree more! Great list, my dude! Have you ever tried Axiom Verge? It's a really awesome metroidvania and I believe it was made by one person, also.
