I was wondering if there were military versions of these financial videos, glad they are here, because I don't want to be a youtuber and do it. Great work Jake

For the sapphire, you can redeem your sign up bonus for "Pay yourself Back" and get 1.5x the points, so 60k points got me 900 in credit card charge reimursement

The only caveat I would add about your credit card setup for active duty is that although it is getting better, American Express is still not as widely accepted overseas. I just recently PCS'd to the UK and have noticed this, but more places are slowly beginning to accept it. Also to everyone that says that 6 credit cards is too much to carry around, I've recently started using contactless payments through Google Pay (Apple Pay works great as well for iPhone users) mostly because Europe has completely moved towards contactless payments. These apps enable you to "carry" all 6 of your cards with you simultaneously so no need to worry about having a bulky wallet. Other than that, great video with lots of good info and keep it up!

Great thing about the Amex Gold is that the commissary and food court on base codes for the 4x points for groceries and dining. At least here in Italy. I carry the Citi Prestige for dining here off base because it's a MasterCard (accepted everywhere in Europe) and gets 5x. Good video.

The budget you use in your presentations are always easy to follow. Love how you encouraged responsible credit card usage at the end. Congratulations on the shout out from Dave Hanson, in his most recent video. It was good to see you recognized as one of the legends in the game.

Hi Jake Broe! TSgt in the AF here. I wanna say your videos have helped me understand and progress so much in terms of my finances. I am in the same boat where I wished I started investing earlier (and now have a high TSP donation percentage to play catch up haha). I have also been using the USAA Signature credit card (boo). I knew nothing about stocks, retirements, taking advantage of credit cards, etc. It was just too much information and seemed so complicated. But your simple and easily understandable videos have been invaluable.

Do you think you could make a video on how taxation works on sign up bonus, rewards points, cash back? Is there a difference if we opt for rewards or gift cards instead of cash for points?

Thanks!

I think you have the BEST credit card video. The most easily understand with good detail explanation.

Very good info. Also, maintaining a good credit history is important to getting a security clearance.

If something doesn't code, if it's anything like amex, you can call and have them code it so it can work on base

Quick note on the Citi double cash. If you get the Capital One Quicksilver card and make the sign up bonus spend ($150, for $500 in 3 months) then you will remain ahead of the Citi double cash until you spend something north of 30k on the Citi card. It's very likely that you would never spend that much on a card. Side note, Citi customer service is awful and I have found Capital One great to deal with.

Good video Jake. On top of everything you mentioned, you can get thousands of dollars more in value if you transfer points to airline transfer partners.

Appreciate the information about credit cards and not overspending.

Several credit card issuers waive annual fees for active duty military. American Express and Chase are the most popular. While other credit card issuers may waive fees for active military, they may apply these benefits to credit cards acquired prior to active duty.

Thanks for the super helpful video on optimizing your card setup for military servicemembers, Jake! Do you have a setup for those stationed overseas where Amex isn’t as widely accepted? Or perhaps you could make an updated video and address those who aren’t exactly stateside. Thanks!!

Great video! I would only mention 2 things. 13:07 the free authorized users should only be to your spouse or children. If you were to put any or your parents or siblings you would still need to pay for fee. Also, you should include which cards have no foreign transaction fee. For those active duty members serving overseas, they should realize your card setup will be different.

Great video! I was wondering if all this free stuff, especially the no-credit card fee benefits, were available to both active and part-time military members. Thank you

I figured all this out on my own at the end of 2022. Would have been nice to have found this before then lol. I have those 3 AmEx but not the rest. USAA one is nice. I don’t do gas on base because of Costco and don’t bank with USAA but it’s something I will look at.
