Nice, short and concise tutorial! Thank you - I suggest one intermediate step - Reading and saving the original file before flashing so that you can revert back to the original Sonoff firmware later on if you want to go back to EWLink... I always do this with all my SonOff modules that I have modified just to be safe!

You have apparently been lucky.
Most of the dupont leads I have do not take solder. It looks like they might be made with aluminium wires.
