The latest findings about Neanderthals say they were way smarter than we ever gave them credit for. Recent research has shown they made complex tools, used fire for cooking, and even created art like cave paintings and carvings. They also had their own social structures and cultural practices, suggesting they communicated and worked together in sophisticated ways. They weren’t just the brutish cavemen we once imagined. It’s pretty amazing to think how advanced and intelligent our ancient cousins really were!

Hmm, let me ask something: What population is our modern 'median' brain size based on? Does it include people who in Neolithic times would not have survived to adulthood? How does the upper quartile of each population compare?

Another thought, were they physically bigger? Larger / bigger people have bigger heads and bigger heads might provide more size for the brain.

I wonder if the Old Man of La Ferrassie was kept alive because he was a great storyteller, or just out of love.

Sounds like you're describing human beings before we became technologically advanced.
