So that's what happened to the Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Goblins...

If you visit Birmingham in the UK, you will think there are more than six species of humans just in that city

Remember, despite proclamations to the contrary, extinction is the norm, not the exception.

i like this take. so instead of asking how did the other humanoid species all die the real question is how the hell did our group survive...

The most logical theory proposed to answer this question is distribution. In most cases distribution over a large area decreases the odds of extinction, as it makes species less susceptibility to localized events such as famines or natural disasters.

Experience has taught me that homo sapiens killed the others

Yeah the crazy thing there me personally comes from watching channels like primitive technology. Recognizing how much you would have to hold in your head at all times to be able to pull off the different crafts, trades, skills, and knowledge is astounding. There's a lot of boredom, repetition, hard work that those videos definitely entail, but the secret behind them even though he does everything from scratch himself, is that he can go home and eat a good meal without having to rely on all of those steps feeding him. It really struck me how much energy it takes to get from hunter gatherer to having any of the sedentary lifestyles. Comforts available to you. How easy it would be for one critical slice of technology to be lost forever.

Toba, a supervolcano located in Sumatra, Indonesia, erupted some 74, 000 years ago. Some proposed that the biggest eruption in millions of years triggered a catastrophic volcanic winter that nearly wiped out Homo sapiens.

Let's be real...we wiped out all the others.

This is a high point of contention among anthropologists because there was no one thing that caused all of our cousins to die out.

Isn’t it possible that they interbred until their offspring all became one species?

70, 000 years ago other hominids existed. Well they still do in us. Our ancestors mated with them. Also, even insects have language, I'm positive all hominids had some sort of language

The best ones that communicate and the best ones that could cooperate survived

If you don't know what happened, don't tell a story that misleads rest of humanity.

The different human groups already exists before two or three glaciations.
Maybe some where wiped out, but the most was merged.

The same speaker suggests (in a different video clip) that it is possible that modern humans were the only ones who developed vocal cords which allowed us to develop language to have extremely complex speech. In the other clip he explains that advancements in language may have been the key factor in allowing modern humans to survive in situations where other types of humans failed.

Although he only fleeting mentioned it as one reason for these extinctions, the eruption of the super volcano Toba circa 71-74, 000 years ago was the single largest contributor.
