“Preachers Daughter” is the closest thing that I’ve had to a religious experience.

this album is so intimately American but she's just so good at her craft that really anyone can relate to it even without knowing the Southern Gothic inspiration or other references she makes.

I feel like “sun bleached flies” was a perfect way to describe the people she loves that are still stuck in the cult of religion. It makes you feel sad after hearing her follow up with “waiting for the day they’d escape” kind of like how a fly gets stuck in window desperately trying to escape and how she mentions “dancing with the windows open” makes me feel as though she’s trying open the window to save others from corruptness. The lyricism and storytelling is absolutely amazing. Definitely one of my all time favorite songs.

Her music is so nostalgic and leaves me with a roaming melancholy feeling, and I can’t get enough of it.

it was such a privilege seeing her in a fairly small venue in amsterdam. I totally cried during sun bleached flies. my favorite line on the album is "I always knew that in the end no one was coming to save me". I couldn't even sing that line, I whispered it through gritted teeth and after that I just let the tears flow. it was so cathartic, I feel like I purged something from my soul that evening.

I’ve been following Cain since late 2018/early 2019 (not quite sure) but before she even went as White Silas. It’s really crazy to see how much she’s evolved in her music and get her flowers. Every single release has been better than the last with Preachers Daughter being a true masterpiece. She truly is one of a kind

"Preacher's Daughter" hit me like a freight train out of nowhere. Most of my library is punk rock, metal, hardcore, some indie and electronic. This album shattered my ice-cold heart. Absolutely breathtaking. Top 10 for me.

Found Ethel Cain at the end of 2022, and have been enthralled since. I don't usually follow artists closely, but I'll be watching hers closely. It's inspired me to continue trying at my own music, but I'm a long way from reaching her level.

I discovered Ms. Cain after her first concert, opening for Nicole Dollanganger on her Heart Shaped Bed tour and have never stopped loving her. I lost my ticket to her show in Boston and she put me on the list so I could still enjoy the show. She’s a truly beautiful and kindhearted person.

Sun Bleached Flies breaks my heart every time. I’ve never been religious but i still found Cain’s story way too relatable. Also, I had no idea Hayden was trans. She’s so lovely.

- loved your take on Ptolemea and Strangers
- her music is mainly southern gothic though, with rock, country and yeah, sometimes dream pop/dark pop influences !
- she's turning Preacher's daughter into a movie AND a book, this is crazyyyy i can't wait

What do we think about Mother Cain? Also a moment of silence for the passing of (fictional) Ethel Cain RIP queen

her music is so nostalgic and melancholic, while also being so cohesive and cinematic. Preacher’s Daughter is one of the best records i’ve ever heard

i absolutely love preachers daughter, as someone who grew up in a southern baptist family, then suffered my own trauma, lost my relationship with religion, and eventually found it again and converted to judaism, there is something just so cathartic about this album
