This entire grungy nostalgic vibe that she got going on I fucking live for. Everything in this video feels so familiar as if I live in the same town. Like there’s such a deep rooted connection between these visuals, the song, and the lyrics that I almost feel like I have lived that same life already.

This is the first time I've heard of her and I am immediately obsessed. The music, the visuals, everything about this is so stunning. So grateful YouTube recommended this to me today, stumbling on gems like this make me think that some kind of god somewhere fvcking loves me

☕️ "CRUSH" ☕️
LYRICS:

His window's already passed, so he's shooting at the glass
Keeping guns in his locker, and he denies it
Like it's actually important, but he lied 'cause I sure did watch him
Showing up wearing black, and he knows that
His daddy's on death row, but he'll say it with his chest, though
His friends move dope, he hasn't tried coke
But he's always had a problem saying no
His older brother bagged the valedictorian
His mother, steady, screaming he should be more like him
Can you read my mind? I've been watching you
(You know it, you know it, you know it's true)
Couldn't fight to save your life, but you look so cool
Camo' jacket, robbing corner stores
Hard odds to beat when you're on all fours
Good men die too, oh, I'd rather be with you, you, you
I owe you a black eye and two kisses
Tell me when you wanna come and get 'em
I only want him if he says it first to me
I wanna, uh, him in the back of his mom's Mercury
He looks like he works with his hands, and smells like Marlboro Reds
It makes me so, uh, and I can't get enough of it
Something's been feeling weird lately
There's just something about you, baby (there's just something about you, baby)
Maybe I'll just be crazy (I'll be crazy)
And piss him off 'til he hates me
Low slung bad bitch, baby, come and get you some
Can you read my mind? I've been watching you
Couldn't fight to save your life, but you look so cool
(You know it, you know it, you know, oh)
Camo' jacket, robbing corner stores
Hard odds to beat when you're on all fours
Good men die too, so I'd rather be with you, you, you
I'd rather be with you, oh
Oh, I'd rather be with you, oh
'Cause good men die too, so I'd rather be with you

In a couple years I can just see her getting so huge and I feel so lucky for discovering her today. Keep doing great things, Ethel!

This video is nostalgia for life without social media. A life the creators never experienced.

I know this is supposed to portray southern small town America but I grew in upstate NY and this gives me such heavy hometown vibes as well. Furthermore I absolutely LOVE Ethel Cains aesthetic, especially if you look at in the over arching banner of “trans art”. A lot of trans individuals center their aesthetic around society, consumerism, fashion, which are all issues pertinent to the trans experience but this speaks to something much deeper than all of that. People forget that trans folks don’t just pop up fully grown in NYC or San Fransisco like clones. We all come from somewhere and have experiences that shaped who we are

i’ve never encountered a piece of media that so flawlessly encapsulates the feeling of developing a crush on someone. until this song.

it’s lyrically, visually, and sonically perfect. it illicits feelings within me that are simply too powerful and complex to fully articulate. it makes me wanna scream and cry but also lie on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor in silence.

i think the line ‘good men die too so id rather be with you’ will linger in my mind forever.

thank you, ethel cain.

I've listened to this over and over, so many times. Watched it so many times. Every time, it breaks my heart in a new way, a way I never thought possible. It's wonderful. It hurts. And I love it.

Ethel Cain is one of the few artists that have the ability to truly "pull me in" to the point that I am unable to merely listen to any of her songs only once... Especially Crush, I have to hear it 4-5 times once I start listening to it.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with us Ethel Cain, I for one am humbled and grateful...
