“Don’t think America should be one of those things…”
Character is literally named Captain AMERICA….

Captain America always represented American values.

Honestly it's convenient to have the lead actor confirm a movie's irrelevance, saves me time and money

Imagine saying "My role as Batman means many things, but it has nothing to do with Bats"

He's supposed to represent America and American values imagine that!

As an American I see Captain America in the same way as I see our constitution. He is what we aspire to be, even if we're not there yet.

Captain America was supposed to represent how Americans saw themselves, what we aspired to be, someone who could always be counted on to do the right thing, regardless of personal consequences. Steve Rogers was the ultimate Good Guy.

Even in the comics from the 80s to the 2000s Steve Rogers always strove to live out the American ideal. It’s really sad that this is the state of the MCU

The comics had a couple of story threads where Steve Rogers questioned the name Captain America. The resolve was always that he represented the ideal of America, and should continue to do that, even if the government of the time did not.

"I think Warhammer would be better off without all that icky war stuff."
"I think Dungeons and Dragons would be better without all that adventuring, like, if it was just a fantasy romance simulator or something."
"I think Star Wars would be cooler if they got rid of the space ships."
"Why can't we have a Fallout game set entirely before the bombs dropped?"

Captain America never represented the American status quo. He always represented American exceptionalism and the ideal America. Not America as it stands, America at the apex of it's promise. The American dream, that everyone is equal, everyone has worth and justice for all.

Dang. I just lost all respect for Anthony Mackey.

The first issue of Captain America had Cap punching out Hitler *before* the U.S. was at war with Germany. Cap's creators, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, knew Hitler was bad news. (Germany declared war on the U.S. in December 1941 shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.)

Mackie couldn't see himself playing a character that didn't represent him - until the money was right. Whatever 🙄
This stuff is so tiresome.

He's supposed to be an aspirational example of American values that we should all strive to replicate.

He's talking about his larping as Captain America which doesn't stand for American ideals but instead stands for Marxism & another DEI hire that didn't earn or deserve the title.

One really have to ask, how dumb are these actors, really?
Do they not understand, that it is in the name?
If he did not want him to stand for USA, they should not have kept the name and color scheme.

If you want a character to not represent America, THEN MAKE A CHARACTER THAT DOESN’T REPRESENT AMERICA! STOP RUINING ALL THE COOL CHARACTERS!
