Australian Boobook Owls

These are Southern Boobook Owls filmed in Creswick Forest, Victoria, Australia. They normally make a sound like a Cuckoo although they are not making that sound in this video. If you watch the owl on the shorter post, you will notice his beak move as he makes a cricket-like sound. I think that they have recently started exploring as there were about five around and were keeping in touch with the cricket sound you hear in the video. There appeared to be young ones amongst them. They were taking turns in landing on signposts and trees. I was able to hide behind the LED floodlights of my 4wd. The haziness in the footage is due to the heat rising from my vehicle bonnet (not apparent till viewing on a larger screen).

Such incredible creatures! You are so lucky to see them together like this - it’s a once in a lifetime sighting :)
