'Insert Effects' VS 'Send Effects'

In music mixing, ‘Insert Effects’ and ‘Send Effects’ serve different purposes.

‘Insert Effects’ are typically used to alter the signal of an individual track or a specific part of a track.

They are ‘inserted’ directly into the signal path of the track. Common insert effects include EQ, compression, and distortion.

On the other hand, ‘Send Effects’ or ‘Auxiliary Sends’ are applied to multiple tracks or the entire mix collectively, rather than individually.

They are routed through auxiliary tracks and allow for the same effect to be applied uniformly across different tracks or the entire mix.

Common send effects include reverb and delay. These effects are added to the mix independently of the individual track signal paths, providing a cohesive and consistent sound across the entire mix.

I’m glad you’re playing some Rick James on here. Rick James doesn’t get enough credit for his contribution to the music world

Insert and send effects so much easier in the DAW. I never run out of patch cables now.

Is it possible that sometimes reverb sounds better as insert on vocals, especially on high bpm songs? Maybe I just can't handle it as a send but to me it often sounds better as insert. Check my songs for reference 😅

Always the best info and easy to understand too. When you say auxiliary does it mean like separate busses without any channel on them. Also how is adding effects to the middle of routes different to the end of them if there is nothing inbetween if they are different outcomes in that scenario. Also, could you do a video on how to route and why, what do you recommend we use, tips and tricks, something like that, even plug ins or equipment or anything, also if you have any interesting info on Patcher in fl. Thanks again Streaky!

Longer song splice next time, and try reading the words slow before you post! That was a disleptic nightmare 😅

I'm not trying to show off or anything but I read all that backwards without pausing, I don't know why everyone's struggling 🧠
