This could be daunting task for independent mechanics coming into a dealership, this information is spot on ...

Dude, you just described and touched on every single problem I am having with my 2008 Chevy HHR. Rear door hatch will not open (unless you put a fuse in an empty fuse position). My rear wiper on that door will not work although it does when you bypass the relay under the engine compartment fuse box. Rear left passenger door window will not roll up and down or is intermittent. ABS and Traction dash lights are on yet. There are no issues with those things. I just bought this a few days ago and I swear it feels like it is possessed. The funny thing? The car engine and transmission runs so damn well it rides smooth like a new car. I am a gigging musician who travels and needs the space in the back for some of my equipment. I thought these would be easy fixes. Speed sensors are working fine as they are relaying back perfect information and hooked up to a very expensive scanner can clear the lights but they just come on again. If I buy a new one or a used one, I hear they have to be programmed? Can only the dealer do this?

Thank you for this very helpful video! I am wondering if the BCM is the problem on my 2012 Chevrolet Captiva V6. Sometimes while I'm driving, the radio will go out, or the dash lights will come on/ding and flicker. However the real problem is that it will sometimes just die while I'm driving it; Not like dead-battery-i-can-jump-it die, DIE dead. Sudden loss of fuel, no lights, no power steering, the key will not turn off. It does not seem to affect the brakes or gear shifter, thank goodness. We have replaced the battery, alternator, spark plugs, and even added additional grounding wires to the battery after seeing similar issues on a Chevy forum. However, that has not fixed the issue. I am tempted to replace the BCM but I don't want to sink the time and money into if if that will not be the issue. Since the BCM has to be programmed after replacement, can I just buy one already programmed/compatible with my vehicle? How would that work? I love this car and am only at 140k miles. I want to keep it as long as possible.

I believe I fried the BCM on my '06 Taurus several years ago while doing an oil change. My filter wrench shorted out against the hot wire to the starter which Ford engineers decided did NOT need a rubber boot covering it. Always disconnect the battery cable or at the very least, wrap electrical tape around the band on the filter wrench on these vehicles.

Very well explained, easy to understand instruction. Thank you
Currently have a 2007 Gran Prix Base with no brake lights. I don't get a code set for anything pertaining to that. I'm hoping the Brake pedal switch is bad, but it needs calibrated/programmed. I have turn signals, and tail lights.

Nice explanation! One doubt though, could a bad BCM interfere in engine functioning, like cutting fuel supply or undertanding that car is Being jacked and stopping Power supply to the engine or maybe even Block the engine for a moment as if the immobilizer was acting?

Do you think it would be the same problem for 2009 cadillac sts the trunk won't open and the airbag light came on. Also the power seats won't move forward or backwards. The steering wheel won't adjust either.

Described every symptom my g37x had before limp mode was activated and tranny slipped! Thanks so much, infinitis are notorious for the damn sunroof leaks, i’m wondering if the BCM can be rebuilt so no reprogramming is necessary?

Thanks for the informative video. I have an urgent request concerning a problem with my truck. This is an International truck. The DEF, check engine and the triangle lights came on. I was asked to change the Turbo Actuator. Two days later, same lights came back on. This time around, my mechanic said it's the Body Controller Module. He said there's no communication between the BCM and the Turbo Actuator. There is no loss of power from the truck. The truck runs good even when those lights came on both times. Is this really the problem? If this is the problem, can I use a used BCM or I should just go ahead and buy a brand new one? Thank you
