Fun fact, the origins of both footballs originate from the same category of game, football! This was basically any sport that deslt with players being on foot, rather than on horseback, a key distinguishing feature especially since horseback was associated with aristocracy! The original game was named Shrovetide or Mob football, where a village competed against another village, to see who could deliver a ball (a pig's bladder) to their respective village, with any means allowed! This would be altered between villages, towns, and countries that britain colonized, giving rise to many variations such as Griridion (american football, which is a cousin to rugby), rugby football, gaelic football, or australian football (and many more!).
