Shaun Murphy: How to control the cueball

Here I demonstrate a good practise routine to learn how to hit the cueball in a straight line, something most players forget about. If you can hit the ball straight at your aiming technique is sound, then you should develop into a strong player.

Great videos Shaun! Please could you do a video on the stun run through? This is a shot that I struggle with. Thank you! Love that cue action!

Hi Shaun,
I’ve started playing this game for two years and now I am addicted to it. But I am still not settle with one method of my two methods. When I prepare a shot, 1. As I move cue under my chin, I can see the path of cue’s as it moves back and forward. 2. I don’t see the path of the cue, but only the object ball. The problem with my first method was I end up leaning whole my heads in lil awkward position to put my left eye directly above the cue. Since I am new to this game, I don’t know which method should I stick with as I am not too sure which method to choose. I think I can improve my game much better if I settle with one technique. I am pretty sure that my elbow and arms are stable and right method. Normally when you explain you have to deliver cue straight, do you see the path of cue as if it was running from you eye ? I haven’t seen any videos explaining about that, rather they says your not cueing it straight. Please help me pick a method. Thank you very much.

So a vid recently about John Paris making an 8.75 tip cue for you. Is it based on any of the “Parris Collection”? I’m customising a “regal” model for that tip thickness to keep the cost down. I grew up with that tip but lost the cue when my club closed down.LTBLA if it means any sense! Some time ago!!

Shaun could you help me with something please. I've played the game all my life but only play once a week (my highest break is 74). Every video I watch people say you should always look at the object ball last as you strike the cue ball. But I'm sure I look at the cue ball last. I've never had a problem with this because I'm happy ish with my game but when I came across a video discussing "what ball you look at last when striking the cue ball" the next time I played I was thinking about it on my shots when I was down at the table and every time I think about it I miss the pot. It mind sound crazy but I'm not even 100% sure what ball I'm looking at last (i think it's the cue ball) can you tell me which I should be looking at last please and does it matter because some days I feel I can pot everything and some days I can't pot a thing. ??? Thanks for your time. Lee

You may have already made this video, I haven't checked yet.
I would like to know how to avoid in-offs by control of the cue ball when the natural angle after potting is a direct in-off.
Multiple examples would be appreciated ;).

SM, 2374 takes. Astounding; i would have thought you would have got it right every time with your aston martin cue action. i used to have a good cue action but now i have lost it. every shot is full of uncertainity and i have lost my confidence totally. tried to figure out but failed every time. any starting point and course?? i love the game and i feel sad now to visit the table instead of delight. If you can get a position for the next ball by the help of the cushion or with a simple stun ?? what would u like to prefer me to practice more .... as some times cushions are fast or slow .

Other funny thing about this specific style is that if the white and red are slightly off it will transfer in your shot.
Maybe a tip for any who try it out, to line the shot out before even starting!
