I am a Brit who lives in Russia so I can give you a better idea that the mainstream isn't giving you.
I've met many of these Americans, they don't hate America at all, they love America but cannot live there because of the direction it's going in, it's become incompatible with them, they didn't leave because they hate it.
This lack of freedom that you speak of is borderline irrelevant, a liberal will feel more free in the west whilst a Conservative will feel more free in Russia, it's not freedom, it's preferential rules, hence why you have Liberal Russians moving westwards and conservative traditionalists moving eastwards, this is a growing trend and will continue to grow into the foreseeable.

Only the other week Putin announced the shared values decree, 400 westerners have moved on that basis alone within that short time frame.
What should be mentioned is that it's much safer here and we have law and order, I can't speak for everyone but I can certainly say that in comparison to the UK it's far safer and more family friendly here.

Overall everyone needs a place to call home, thank God Russia exists and is offering an alternative for Conservative, Christian, Traditional minded pro family people in the same respect that Thank God the west exists as Liberals can go there and live under the rule of Neo-liberalism.

Both of my grandmothers were born in kiev ussr.im half russian.ive been talking to my american husband about moving to russia possibly.we are very traditional people me the most.im very old fashion with old time beliefs and a christian. Both my grandmothers were orthodox christians.

Я смотрел видео американского блогера, он является преподавателем английского языка и уже несколько лет изучает русский язык, и хорошо на нём разговаривает. Так вот он сказал, что изучать русский язык ни чуть не сложней, чем изучать английский язык, так как в каждом языке есть свои нюансы и сложности. Например в английском языке 12 форм прошедшего времени, а в русском всего одна форма.
