I don't think we'll have much of a choice considering all the shortages in the world and other issues humanity is facing + the fact that this industry generates so much pollution and that people replace their device so often, even when they're still capable, it should honestly be the bare minimum that every manufacturer does to reduce waste. Kudos to them. But you should have titled your video with something less negative. That could be a turn off for many consumers, you could have phrased it "5 things framework can improve etc", how can we hope more devices like this to be made if we already dig their grave before most people could even be informed about their existence.

They updated the hinges at some point with the gen 1. If you contact support, they might send u new hinges or just order them from the store.

a lot of these issues were either defects they fixed and offer on their market like hinges which are available on their store OR they will swap out per warranty like the touchpad. I had my touchpad swapped real quick after i reached out to em.

1. Hinge: My hinges are way more robust and holds a lot stronger with little wiggle. What batch was your laptop from? There were hinge quality issues in some of the earlier batches. I'd say send a message to support and see what your options are

2. Sleep/Hibernate: I noticed this to an extent but I'm also just in the habit of completely shutting down my laptop any time I'm not using it since boot time is damn near-instant. I also keep my laptop on the battery saver preference most of the time if I'm not plugged in.

3. Fingerprint sensor. I've not noticed any failure/delay in registering my fingerprint either on boot or from sleep. In fact, I was just playing with it last night marveling at how I can practically just brush the sensor, and boom I'm in. Like with the hinge maybe you just have a bad/finicky one.

4. Speakers: Yeah my impression of the speakers is "not great but not terrible". I have a pair of type C earbuds I use and my wireless earbuds as well so I don't use them often.

5. Trackpad: I have also noticed some click failure issues but I predominantly use a Logitech G604 so that I have extra buttons to move between desktops, cut/copy/paste, and other frequent commands.

On point 2, double-check whether there is a "Hibernate after" time set in the advanced power options. On my laptop, it's set to automatically hibernate after 6 hours. Obviously if you put it to sleep but it then goes into hibernation, it'll definitely make it take longer to come back up.

Iirc there's something on the framework subreddit about the loose hinge being a defect, and how you can get a free replacement/new laptops don't have that issue

You've got a defective hinge. It is not supposed to be that loose. Support will send you a good one for free.

They upgraded their hinges with the newer model and the upgrade kit when it is available

Looks like they already released a stronger hinge and it sold out!

Why is one finger open of your laptop so important? How many times do you actually do that and how hard is it to just use two hands?

Framework is way too expensive for how many quirks it has. 1000 dollars can get a very nice laptop

The problem I've had with two consecutive Dell XPS13s is that they wake themselves up after you put them to sleep and put it in your bag. You hear the fans because the computer is on and trying to cool.

Did you have this issue with the Framework? I'm interested in one.

Thanks for the video

The only one of these issues I have is the last one, and I agree that there's something going on with the trackpad. I don't think it's a software issue, because I have exactly this same issue on Linux. October batch, if it matters.

Well, TBH, I feel this could also be windows 11 issue. Well, I use arch linux but I heard from many of my friends ( as they use windows 11 ) that they face so many bugs and issues in windows 11

I got my Framework 16 on May 1st. Put Linux Mint Edge edition on and am loving it, with 64 GB RAM.

There is a battery bug that causes the tiny RTC battery to drain after just a few days. You then have to remove all the batteries to get it to boot. They recommend you charge the laptop for 24 hours every now and then but not had to do that with any other laptop. You have a laptop that you cannot trust to 'just work' when you open it up after a few days. Not an issue if you use it all the time but some of us don't. No fix apparently for 11th gen board owners. So yeah it might be fixable...but at a cost of $800 for a new next gen board. Yay!

All good points! Have you tried out the new hinges? What do you think?

Great content, Shane. Keep up the great work!

I have recently been experiencing issues with my gaming pc that I built just two years ago! I have no idea what’s wrong and fear that one of my components is broken. I will be playing and my pc just goes to no signal out of nowhere, without warning. I’ve tried using a different monitor, different cable, I’ve cleaned my ram, I’ve updated the drivers and nothing. Please help!
