Good point! No need to get married to a rep range.
Let's be honest tho. In practice the 8 to 12 rep range is a solid choice because you can stay a few reps from failure (which benefits recovery) while still getting enough overall volume at a high enough intensity to grow optimally.

A lot of it depends on your body type, or should I say muscle type. Trainees with more red, slow twitch will grow more on high reps and those with a higher fast twitch white fiber percentage grow faster on those low reps. I think that is why mainstream always called for the 8-12 because you get a little bit of both. I have seen guys who just cant grow on low reps (although they do gain strength) but they grow like a weed on the PUMP with higher reps. Thanks for this short video, I am really enjoying your channel

My trainer would always cycle me through the rep ranges. 8-12/4-6/1-3.
Whenever I hit the upper limit, I would move to the next range and higher weights with a rest week at the end of it.
I always passionately hated that last week, though. Handling a weight, I could only just about manage always felt inherently unsafe to me. Especially for Squats.
It did work though, for the two or so years, I did it.
