Is that wobble/ grinding noise because its not up to the run rpm? Like its just in a standby mode but when you put it to work it ramps up to speed then magnetically slows it back down for heat dissipation and whatnot? Sounds like it could explode any second.. the ones ive heard are super quiet and get up to speed within 5 or 10 seconds.. theyre likely newer though and the motor windings arent exposed and no yellowing glass.. watched a tech drop one from a 4 foot height and sounded like a bell when it hit the concrete floor but didnt break.. even still sounded less abrasive than the one in the video.. expensive little boogers sometimes..

How did you wire up the filaments and rotating anode. I'm an xray tech and have 4 tubes, complete with their stators, but I don't know how to wire. Been trying to look up diagrams, and I'm good with electrical work, just don't know the correct voltages. Trying to make it for display and don't want to burn the filaments out on my tubes, and getting them to spin would be awesome. Tried straight ac once but didn't work. Not sure how the (and what specific kind) of capacitor it needs to start. I know the filaments are ac also, but would a dimmer switch work or enough voltage from DC?

I remember going in hospital for an X-ray when I was a kid, and the tube on that machine was in a cylindrical housing (it had the Mullard logo on it) and made quite a bit of rotational whirring type noise; I know why now!

interesting tube. how does the shaft pass through the envelope and maintain the vacuum, is there a magnetic coupling or something similar ? thanks for posting your videos, much appreciate the time you put in for your fans. all the best from England.

there was no exposure made. the filament was probably stressed a good amount. but an actual exposure that long would cause the tube to fail
