WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

This is one of the primary things that led to my deconversion. The ambiguity and circularness of salvation, works, sin, forgiveness, etc. What I had once accepted with faith as a child, with careful thought just stopped making sense.

To be bluntly honest, if Christianity is the truth, (which i certainly don't believe ), i would rather spend eternity, in hell, with all the awesome people throughout history who are not going to heaven. Imagine having to spend eternity with Ray Comfort, Kent Hovid, Ken Ham, & all the rest of Thiests, who i have found to be dishonest, bigoted, judgmental, arrogant. To me a heaven full of Theists, seems more like hell.

I despise the whole "You were never a true Christian" response to somebody losing their faith. I got this from Ray Comfort in a a conversation I had with him last year.

As Matt points out, you can never know if you are saved. Any believer now cannot possibly know whether or not they will be one of the many who lose their faith later in life. If they do, according to this argument, they are not a true believer now. It makes a mockery of the idea that all you have to do is believe. Clearly that's not enough. You have to be able to predict the future too.

I used to be a sincere believer, and even then I worked this one out. I believed in the "once saved, always saved" idea. I could see the problems of saying somebody was never a true believer. It's a shame so many others don't get it and adopt the arrogant attitude of saying, only with hindsight, that somebody was never a believer in the first place.
