I will admit, its nice to see a Smilodon acting more out of curiousity and not out of needless bloodthirst.

1:38 he is, after all, a cat. If he fits, he sits.

Even if you don't like this documentary, you have to admit this segment was pretty well done.

I love how the Doedicurus’s armor is portrayed as being sort of fuzzy

Doedicurus is a giant ancient relative of the Armadillo, though it weighs almost 300 times as much, about the size of a car. It’s spiked tail club, alone, can weigh 40 kilos, as much as a cannonball. Although fearsome defensive weapons against predators like Smilodon, the males often use them on each other, to batter rivals into submission, during hormone-fueled jousts for a mate.

I'll admit, this was the most adorable scene I've ever watched when I first saw it.

A young Smilodon climbing around those massive Doedicuruses. Doesn’t he realize this isn’t his typical playground?

Is it just me or do the mammal and mammal like ancestors in this series just look particularly good compared to the other prehistoric animals in this series? Like it’s really clear that mammals are the animators real area of expertise?

"So, there were these rocks... and I swear, I managed to piss a couple of them off. Funniest shit I ever seen."

It would have been funny if the Smilodon started sharpening his claws on one of the Doedicurus' shell. They would have been able to feel through them, like how modern armadillos can, so a Smilodon scratching on the shell would still hurt like a motherfucker, which would have warranted a thwack with a tail club, or getting bucked off.

With how much big cats act like domesticated cats even in the wild, would it be a stretch to say smilodon would sit in a cardboard box if they could?

Can’t believe cameraman was able to capture such a moment!

I like them pertaining smilodon as a curious animal as others big cats like, instead of a bloodthirsty monster.

At the end of the day, a cat is still a cat.

I love how they act as animals. Yes, they might be a bit bigger and toothier, but this is simply very big cat. Curious and probably looking for breaking up the boredom. Also models are more than decent! I´ve seen the very first CGI back then and blown me away. Every paleontologist can use to certain extent his or her own imagination how they looked like. And I like this one!
The whole scene was hilarious! I absolutely adore the author´s sense of humour!

I’m glad that the Doedicurus actually have an armor-plated “helmet” on the tops of their heads, which was bizarrely missing in the model from Walking with Beasts (2001).

Love how the smilodon acts like a normal cat instead of a bloodthirsty killer.

I don't know if you noticed but they made sounds like a cougar to this smilodon.
which ironically is correct because the ability to roar is unique to pantherines and smilodon is not a pantherine
