In this video, we talk about some of the realities that you will face as you teach yourself to code. While in some circumstances 3 months is enough, most of the time, this journey is a much longer one.

Everything you said applies to m case. When I started learning web development, I got pretty comfortable with HTML, CSS & JS within a period of 4-5 months. And I had a vague understanding of these technologies before. So I picked up quickly. Things started to become a lot more harder once I started learning React and server side programming. Backend is a completely new beast. And understanding backend have me a good understanding of the whole stack. So I now pick things easier and faster. So, ya, I would say, it would take 6 months approx. if you restrict yourself to HTML, CSS, BOOTSTRAP, JavaScript and May be one animation library like GSAP and you are ready to devote minimum 4 hours everyday coding. And if you go for full stack without specialising in let’s say frontend., then 1 year with focus and determination should be enough. But for an absolute beginner without any prior programming experience and a full time job, 3 months would not be enough. People say this just to sell their courses may be. But if you want to learn programming, think long term and enjoy the process, develop a routine and you would do great. I agree with all the points Zach mentioned.

I am two months into coding. I must confess that I actively had only a month's experience in say 15% in JavaScript Basics. I believe I need to dedicate more time and broaden my learning resources. Great video.

I'd say that you could probably touch most core concepts in 3 months. Just touching them, though. After that you'll have to turn to resources like YouTube to refresh that knowledge repeatedly enough to get it to sink in! Not to mention creating enough projects to exercise those skills. Cheers!

6 months is generous. It takes years to get good.

Not well. I was terrible in my 3rd month. But some were not. So depends, but for the most part, 3 months is not enough to do anything on the level of working in the real world. Need a yearish. At least I do.

3 months for total beginner or for someone already familiar with other languages and frameworks and to learn new?
