Hospital may have exposed 18 patients to brain disease

Dr. Sanjay Gupta says a hospital may have exposed 18 people to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease through contaminated instruments.

My dad had CJD. It was not one of the acquired forms, in question in this case. Like the doctor said the Prion protein is resistant to all the destabilisation procedures in practice. Because of this, any instruments used on any patient with Prion disease must be destroyed

So to be clear, the instruments were sterilized, but not to higher standards recommended if they suspect CJD. Hate to say it but these "small" errors happen all the time in hospitals and only get exposed when something this deadly is of cpncern.

A sibling of mine appears to have this. Last visit to neurologist he leaned towards PSP but unsure. Since then another sister and I are sure its prion disease due to rapid weekly decline. All symptoms fit. She's losing all functions. Think she may die before they suspect rare condition. She had surgery prior. Wonder?

it does not seem like one in a million. my cousin just died today likely this disease was the cause. rapid decline. autopsy being completed.
