Using luminol to make a glowing waterfall

Luminol is a chemical that exhibits something called chemiluminescence, so when it reacts, it can release light.

Luminol is also used as a presumptive positive test for blood! It’s incredibly useful for detecting blood that has been cleaned up because it reacts with the iron in hemoglobin to produce the same glowing effect, and even though it’s somewhat limited in its use because it requires a distinct lack of light, it is incredibly useful inside of buildings/structures.

Us forensic investigators love this stuff. Hemoglobin, an oxygen-carrying protein in blood, catalyzes the luminol oxidation reaction for a strong glow. They say strong glow but it depends on how much is there.
