One of the best worded explanations that still gets the main point across. Nice. 👍

I don't know what it's like Holland - but in the UK something like only 20-30% are directly affected by interest rate rises, that's why I doubt that interest rates make a huge difference apart from pummeling property owners. I hope it's something you'll look into!

Hi mate, I am wondering: what controls can be used in the event that inflation is driven on the supply side rather than consumer spending, as is the case for the last few years?
Obviously interest rate increases make no sense as it’s not the consumer who needs to feel their wallet tighten.
In fact, if anything, interest rates increases may even be counterproductive because businesses then have much larger debts to service which they may address by increasing prices.

If asset prices are based on future flows, and asset prices decrease, doesn't that mean that future flows are worth less? I.e. increased inflation?

Can you do a video about interest rates and inflation again? In particular I feel like interest rates are best at cutting markups of firms that have to lower prices due to lower demand, but the current European inflation is due to increased energy and resource costs. Firms dont have the possibility of reducing prices. Furthermore, depending on the nation interest rates are fixed for houses and business loans so it will take years for renewals of those contracts at higher rates. I feel like we only see a reduction in new houses build as a consequence of the interest rates + shift of investments to bonds instead of venture capital

What might be more interesting for this audience is how central banks affect interest rates through reserve requirements, rather than some knob with numbers on it. (These go to eleven.)

Please explain the European central bank. What happened to national central banks in Europe?

Why do banks follow the Central Bank interest rate hike? Are they legally required to? This has never been properly explained to me

Each interest rate increase simply means more free money for banks, right?

Yeah. That chain does not work if more houses are needed than are present on the market.

ECB has for more than a decade been "stimulating the economy", which *is not their purpose* and have neglected inflation controls. *Which is their purpose*

They have been pumping money into the system in an attempt (succesful?) to keep in line with Dollar monetary expansion.
They reacted *way too late* on rising inflation (long before the UA-RU war started.

Pure incompetence.

Low interest rates and too much stimulus for way too long…

Why raise intrest rates to curb inflation while we are certain that most of inflation is due to increase in profits? (NIPA - Bureau of Economic Analysis)

Price control is another more effective solution and isn't a neoliberal austerity policy.
