Autonomous maritime drones are causing quite a conundrum. The International Maritime Organization is an organization to regulate autonomous ships the IMO that's the specialized agency of the United Nations for shipping. The assumption that offenders would be on board ships enforcers would board and interact with seafarers has been shattered by autonomous ships. Current law assumes a master will be on board, for example a captain. A meeting by a working group discussing terminology which is basic but essential such as bodies and master if the master is no longer on board can a remote operate to be a master. The IMO has chosen a non-binding instrument which is much more flexible than hard treaty law which is very rigid and slow. If there's no crew what steps would be taken to protect the cargo or vessels from potential hijackers.
