Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships

Whilst some of the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) workforce are likely to be ‘retrained’ seafarers there is also the likelihood that this new industry might attract new workers. This lecture considers some of the lessons we have learnt from the seafaring industry to explore how, from the very beginning, we can encourage an equal, diverse and inclusive workforce. In particular consideration is given to how work and employment could be organised in the industry, the language utilised and how we might identify any barriers to employment.
