My husband and I made it when we saw the show. It tastes very good! Easy way to do it is skip all the herbs/spices and use a pack of chinese 5 spice instead! Same concept made easy!!

This looks absolutely delicious, Larry.

Regarding sake, I went to the grocery store awhile back to look for some. I found some fancy-looking bottles for about fifteen bucks and up, but the only thing I really know about sake is there can be a vast difference in flavor from brand to brand and type to type. So I didn't want to spend that much for a dish I only needed a few tablespoons for, especially since chances were good I wouldn't like the one I chose.

So I looked around some more and found a catch-all section that had an assortment of smaller bottles of various stuff, and was pleased to find a little bottle (180ml, or about 6 ounces) of something called "Gekkeikan Cap-Ace Sake" for less than three bucks.

Surprisingly, I found the taste to be quite acceptable, to my palate at least, and the bottle holds plenty for about three dishes. So now I keep a bottle on hand. But yeah, for most dishes you can get by substituting Chinese cooking wine; I just thought this might be useful information for someone who is in the same boat as me. :)

Wow! Looking mighty tasty. That's a winter meal for me. I can't imagine standing over the stove top turning and basting those chicken wings in my hot upstairs apartment during summer. I would sweat like crazy. This would be perfect during the winter months, when I am bored and trying to keep the apartment warm. I love the finish work though.

I also split my chicken in batches when I was browning it, but I put the first batch in the sauce instead of another plate. Then when my second batch was done I put the wings and sauce into the pot.
