If you're using old model of mac pro (non retina), you can upgrade the ram and change the hard disk to SSD. This will helps to speed up your mac at some point

Not certain about the points made but, if anyone else is searching for best cleaning utility for mac try Stiklind Fast Mac Fixer (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? I've heard some great things about it and my m8 got great success with it.
