Eighteen and fifty two? That poor girl! Fortunately it wasn't for long and she got the guy she loved. Thank you Claire

I can't imagine back then trying to spend time on the sea going to another country and how scary that would have been! Those ladies were gutsy

Poor Mary! I can't imagine having to leave your family to marry into another. Thanks again Ms. Claire. Enjoyed it.

Thank you, love the portrait of Mary. Still think of Mary looking like Glynis Johns though!

Mary is one of my favourite tudor women how she stood up to Henry and married the man of her choice and lived a happy life 👍👍

What an intimidating journey, shipped off on a journey where you could risk being sunk.

Married to an elderly groom in a foreign country, a political instead of a love match (not that many high born women could expect a love match)

I’m glad she eventually married for love, even if she had to dodge Henry’s anger for a while afterwards.

🇭🇲🦘 As always Claire, a wonderful account of this day in Mary Tudor's life. Such a difficult sea journey ahead of her to get to France in time for her marriage to the French King. "Thank you"! 💓👑👍

I write no more today (on topic), for today I take leave to remember my dear brother who died on this day 8 years ago aged only 59, just 3 days prior to his 60th birthday, that he was so much looking forward to. He had been very ill and very brave knowing he was dying, but had planned a big party for his 60th, and was very much looking forward to seeing all his family and friends, to have the chance to say 'goodbye' on his terms.

Many were arriving for his party, as many had far to travel, but he died suddenly. So, instead of a party, we all sadly attended his funeral. He never got to say goodbye, as he had hoped and planned. It only seems like yesterday, the memories so vivid. So today, I pay tribute to him and honour him. Remembered by his loving family, forever. I use this forum to pay tribute to my late brother Stephen (Steve). I hope no one minds! 😔💔🔔

What a send off! Although it wouldn:t have made up for such an elderly groom.
I love how she was so quick to remarry without asking anyone's permission. She clearly wasn't intimidated by Henry. Nor was her sister Margaret. Both seem to have been wilful in matters of love.

Must have been a sight to behold with such cloth and jewels. At least the marriage was short and she married a man she loved.

Thanks Claire. Sounds like a harrowing voyage.

Poor Louis! One source says that he died from being "worn out by his exertions in the bedchamber, " in his attempts to produce an heir. When he died, the throne passed to his cousin.

You’ve mentioned cloth of gold ofter. I even asked you a question about it once, and you kindly responded with a link. I seem to be infatuated by it, and I’ve wondered why no one has tried to recreate it. It would certainly be something to see. Thank you.

Imagine having all that honor shown on your behalf and that of your family, but really dreading the entire thing and wanting to turn around to go back home. The fate of princesses was so harsh. Grow up revered by your country and then ship off, often never to see your family again, and/or to have tons of pregnancies, likely until one of them kills you.

I’ve been reading more about France, and this specific era around when the king was aging and people began looking more toward his heir. The anxiety about if Francis would indeed become king or not, and his whole family dynamic is so interesting. I’ve found French history a bit more... intimidating than English, but it’s been a good jumping in point for me. ☺️

Also, Claire’s hair looks especially great in this vid specifically. 🤩

Great video. Your hair is a beautiful length and colour. How did you get that colour? Not to blonde not to yellow PERFECT it really suits you. Love it. Nothing to do with the Tudors of course but thought I would say how pretty it is

Frankly, Mary had a better initial marriage than any of Henry's wives. She was not married for long, she got a significant pension out of it, and - old man or no - Louis was not a self-absorbed man or a philanderer.

I'm probably weird, but I love the Tudor era dresses. They look beautiful. Maybe not comfortable. But pretty.

Is it correct that Mary agreed to marry Louis on the understanding she could take the man of her own choice if she married again.
I know that Henry was not very pleased when she married Charles Brandon and didn't they have to pay some kind of fine and stay away from court for a while.

So Mary was Francis I stepmother. Had his father lived longer, this would have made Henry his stepuncle
