So true, the end-user is the biggest threat. Being aware and teaching is crucial.

One thing I believe is overlooked in those "don't plug in a usb thumb drive that you find on the ground" is that even *if it is yours*

Lets just say you work for a big tech company, and you have your own personal thumb drive, you run to the store and get groceries, as you get out, you don't realize you knocked out your thumb drive (which has no discernable sensitive information on it, but it does have work on it) you then go precede to shop, you put your groceries in your car, go home and unpack your groceries etc, then as you go to finish the work you brought home, you realize... oh crap where is my thumb drive!? - You frantically search your car and do not find it, you re-trace your steps and boom you find it in the parking lot you visited earlier, in the same parking spot even, and you know it is yours. - Still do not under ANY circumstance put it in your work computer, report the "loss" to your tech department and let them know, just to be on the safe side, you never know if someone found it, opened the files realize you work for say Amazon, and even though the files you had on it are more or less benign and overall unharmful, they still could have placed a file that will auto run the second you plug it into a pc, and it will likely do so silently/wait for the right information to be transferred to the program before it does what it was intended to do in the first place. (Just err on the side of caution)

I am sure you zack, realizes this, as do MANY people who have even remotely touched the surface of security when it comes to computers.

In a recent job I had, I actually had to stop a co-worker from inserting information into a computer after they searched the web for an answer on how to do something, and that website then popped up with a chime "Your computer is infected with spyware" I told them to shut it down, and call the IT department, I went back to doing what I was doing, and about 2-5 minutes went by, and I noticed they were still working on the same computer with the same customer. (I was like wtf, so I took the manager back in the back and asked what is going on?... and finally action was taken, I think I was kind of looked at as if though I was over-reacting, but I do NOT regret stopping them from inserting anymore information into the computer, so much data could have been obtained/compromised from that 2 minutes or however long it was. xd)

I wrote my entire thesis on this. I come from a small island that is not a first world country with first world resources. So I wanted to find cost effective risk management for small businesses.. all comes down to education. End users are the biggest threat. Simply due to lack of education.

I just discovered your channel today & love it!
I'm a former engineer (4 yrs), Physics & Chemistry teacher (7 yrs), and looking for another change. The experience I had in engineering (and I really liked the learning of engineering, rather than the practice of it), and stagnation in teaching is what ultimately had me change these career paths. At 35 yrs old, but considering my background, do you think it's too late for me to try to pursue the IT field?

I listened to this podcast recently that basically said, "We think we're all unique, but we're not. What a lot of people like, chances are that you'll like it. What a lot of people don't like, chances are that you won't". This had me thinking about my career as a teacher a lot, and thinking about my friends & brother who are in IT & loving life. I think it might be time for me to get on that boat (really liking the idea of Data Engineer). Any thoughts? Will I have a difficult time getting in considering my age & resume??

Awareness is very important. I did a free mini course on Cybrary about it. No regrets. My eyes are much more wide now in regards to the realities of cyber crime and cyber security. Great video here in order to spread awareness.

Cybersecurity month eh? Now that I achieved my CCNA as of yesterday I'm actually commencing to prepare for my next cert CySA+ this month, like today. I think this cert will be definitely a well served defense against APTs.

Professor Messor has training videos for the A+ exam in different playlists. What's the difference between the CompTIA 901 A+, the 902A+, 1001A+, and the 1002A+? As a newbie, which one should I be going for? Or, gotta study all of them for the A+ exam?
