Invisible Threat in Space! Cosmic Strings Explained

What is a cosmic string? Theoretical cosmologist Paul Sutter explains how these hypothetical cracks in the universe are predicted by theories of the very early Big Bang. If they exist, cosmic strings would be able to manipulate space-time and gravity so that if you were to orbit it, you would not go 360 degrees by the end of your orbit. They would be no wider than an atomic nucleus, but they would be hundreds of millions of light years long. They might even glow with high radiation particles!
