This Vehicle is Making Humvees Obsolete

The much-vaunted Humvee, a mainstay of American military forces, has a new competitor on the block, forcing it into eventual retirement. That vehicle is the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.

The JLTV is the eventual successor to the Humvee. The Army has already stated that though Humvees are not going away anytime soon, the military will slowly phase them out of service as more and more JLTVs get delivered. What makes the JLTV so good is that it combines the maneuverability and speed of the Humvee with the armor of the MRAP.

Military officials have been thrilled with the testing and implementation of the JLTV. It can successfully operate in temperatures from negative forty to 125 degrees, ford up to five feet of water with nothing special, and can travel up to 350 miles on a single tank of gas. With so many positives, it is no wonder why the US and allied militaries cannot get enough of these vehicles since they offer cutting-edge protection and all the benefits of lightly armored vehicles.

Couple of things not mentioned

It has a V hull to make it mine “resistant”
Adding survivability

And it has some side protected against older RPG models that are still popular

Obviously anything newer is gonna roll this thing, but you can’t give a 4 man truck the protection that even modern MBT’s don’t have

Over all, it’s gonna replace Hummers in the combat roles where enemy resistance is gonna be lower then where an M2 or M3 would be more likely useful

It will replace all those scouting and patrol missions that hummers used to fill

It’s an improvement for sure, will be interesting to see if the hummer will completely go away (doubt it unless they come out with a newer hummer like vehicle for truly light tasks, aka base transportation, medical, training, humanitarian missions)

The JLTV is also vastly more expensive than the standard issue Humvee so I highly doubt it will completely be phased out in this century.
