I always loved how Bender threw the can of Coke to Allison and she caught it without even looking.

In the original script, Claire’s lunch was going to be pasta salad, but Ally Sheedy (Allison) suggested sushi because it would have fitted Claire’s status as an upper-class rich girl better, as sushi was more of a luxury food around the time this movie came out.

Besides the foods, the seating also symbolises the characters.

Claire and Andrew sitting next to each other might mean they like each other at first glance but it is because they are in the same peer pressure and social circle.

Brian and Allison sitting alone symbolises that Brian has poor social skills while Alisson is seen as an outsider.

And Bender being next to Claire and Andrew then Brian shows that he wants attention from his peers.

I felt so bad for Bender throughout this scene.

You can see the pain he’s hiding on starving and having no lunch

I wonder if bender messed with vernons lunch. Vernons soup or coffee whatever it was spills. Immediately after they sneak out.

About the can of coke toss and she caught it without even looking… what the basket case and the criminal have in common that almost makes a silent comradery, is that they are the only two who have nothing to lose.
