Hello sir, I could not find your email, actually I wanted to ask something, so I am now asking it here, it is a very important question for me and will be extremely useful for me, plus, you are someone who can answer it correctly as you have experience.

I am taking a physics degree and am in my first year of my undergraduate degree. I want to know what is the purpose of books, how are they meant to be used. I am having this question because I am unable to understand it. Like take any standard recommended book for the college course, when I go into the book to study a topic that is new to me and is also not taken up yet in class, I am unable to understand it, I feel that the theory written is insufficient and it should be more detailed for me to get it. Now I also understand that the author has to cover one whole topic or course in one book in limited number of pages, so he must write it in summarised and concise manner (plus he also have to include questions apart from theory), and there can be endless level of explanation of a topic, we can certainly go into very depth and details for any given topic, so it might not be feasible to do it for every topic in a one single book, so that is why I want to know how are books meant to be used, as for my case atleast, I cannot find the content written in book sufficient to learn a new topic, so what should I keep in mind while using them, what do the authors have in mind when they write these books.

An answer will be highly appreciated :)
