Why 21st century psychiatry needs integrated neuroscience

This is an extraordinary time for psychiatry, as new research in neuroscience is redefining the essence of how we conceptualise psychiatric illness. Psychiatrists need to understand the underlying neuroscience and integrate this into case formulation. They need to be neuroscientifically literate, better prepared for the advances that will come during their working lives, trained to critically evaluate new research findings and integrate these with psycho-social explanations. The RCPsych Gatsby/Wellcome Neuroscience Project aims to meet that need.
