I'm writing this while tears and snot are pouring from my face, the fact that this is the last episode of the series was so heartbreaking to hear. ive been crying for the last 10 hours. This was just an emotional rollercoaster. I applaud you for being able to portray these intense emotions in a single story. I can understand how you feel now and i can't stop sobbing and shaking uncontrollably.

As a former McD's employee having worked at several locations, I can tell you that when 'the ice cream machine is down' what they mean is that the manager/shift manager thinks that the effort on their part isn't worth your dollar. The ice cream machine must be cleaned once during each shift, it has certain external parts that get the ice cream on it, like spigots/nozzles etc, that require cleaning after each shift. So often, the shift manager doesn't want to have to put those parts on and then later take it apart and clean it after their shift. The biggest reason they don't want to deal with the machine is because you have to refill it when the ice cream is low, you can't leave the machine low on ice cream mix for the next shift. AND only the shift managers can refill the machine with the ice cream liquid, which is a real pain in the patootie to do because the liquid comes in a great big floppy bag, with a built-in screw cap that has to be screwed into the reservoir opening, which is located at the top of the machine. It is VERY awkward and difficult to do right, which is why only the shift managers or managers are allowed to do it. And if you don't attach the bag right, the liquid spills EVERYWHERE. I saw it happen a couple of times and was SO GLAD I wasn't involved. When it spills, it flows over the entire machine, all 4 sides, and under it too, and the floor etc. Imagine like 2 or 3 gallons of thick sticky milk syrup being poured all over a 5-foot tall machine, getting into ALL the nooks and crannies. Now imagine having to clean that up with a rag. That ice cream machine has made many an employee walk out on their shift over the years. So that's why the ice cream machine is always 'down'.
