Born on the Bayou (HD)

♪ Whenever I hear this song I think of home. You see when I came home from the hospital, it was to my home on the bayou; the happiest place it the world. When I was younger and you wanted to find me, all you had to do was look on the bayou; from morning till night I was out having fun, during school breaks, on my boat. I knew those bayous like the back of my hand. The song is the first track on Creedence Clearwater Revival's second album, Bayou Country. It was released as the B-side of the single "Proud Mary" and reached #2 on the Billboard Charts. As the songwriter, John Fogerty, commented: "Born on the Bayou" was vaguely like "Porterville," about a mythical childhood and a heat-filled time, the Fourth of July. I put it in the swamp where, of course, I had never lived. It was late as I was writing. I was trying to be a pure writer, no guitar in hand, visualizing and looking at the bare walls of my apartment. Tiny apartments have wonderful bare walls, especially when you can't afford to put anything on them. "Chasing down a hoodoo." Hoodoo is a magical, mystical, spiritual, non-defined apparition, like a ghost or a shadow, not necessarily evil, but certainly other-worldly. I was getting some of that imagery from Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters." No copy infraction intended on my videos.

this song, ..reminds me, of the way you just described, ..only, that I live in Nova Scotia, ..we have no Bayou's, ..but we have a soul, .thats proud, ...most of the "Cajuns" came from here, ..some still remain, & the Acadiens, have always, ..& will forever, ..be apart of my life, ...bless you, .., ..Je Temme, ..mon amis, ..

I grew up in swamp like that!.., Except that we never had an air boat... Not even a Fishing pole!... we use to hunt Gators with Machetes and my Dad was always my Hero!... 5'5" and 120 Lbs... He was my Hero RIP.

this is simply stunning, both the music and the visuals. As a guy who will never see these places sadly, i want to say that John Fogerty and Creedence have meant so much to me over the years, right from the first time I ever heard this stunning voice in the sixties until this day. I have seen Creedence at the Royal Albert Hall in the early seventies when they were then a trio and have seen JF in London since. They are my lifelong alltime favourite band ( closely followed by pink floyd..!! )  I was singing their praises over here long before they were big time. not easy in sixties UK. Your written descriptions of your childhood coupled with this video and music confirm what JF always meant and felt about the Bayou. lovely, touching, moving, evocative and left me wanting to visit....many

IMHO this is right up there with "In a Gadda Da Vida" as one of the great classic rock masterpieces. Just a joy to listen to; pure ear candy! I love those solos and the great rhythm.

Great video. I've seen those bayous, walked the cane thickets and piney woods. Family is from Eunice, Ville Platte, Oppolousas, LA, Beaumont and Woodville TX.

Being out on a sandy bank catching bluegills with only the sound of the wind through the leaves and the frogs croaking is something that eveyone should experience at least once.
