I originally wanted to play piccolo too, but I had a really rude music teacher who told this 10 year old that I couldn't. Even then I said that I'd be happy to play flute first, but she still basically told me I might not be able to. Omg everyone hated her. I now play flute and piccolo disputed what she told me. She finally retired this year so she won't be crushing anymore kids dreams.

When I was 11 I was playing as first chair flute and my band director gave me a piccolo and asked me to play a solo with it a month later. It was my first experience with a piccolo and it's definitely one of my favorite instruments

I go to Philharmonia concerts quite a lot - my father used to be sub-principle Double Bassist with them - I've often seen this guy 'biding his time' in between Piccolo entries and then letting rip - always brilliantly. What a nice guy! These are very informative short videos.... I'm learning a lot.

I noticed something interesting. When this gentleman starts to play high notes, he lifts his face (most notably his eyebrows), which is something that singers also do on order to lighten their pitch or to hit high notes more effectively.

Thought that was kind of interesting...

I play the flute, but am planning on independently learning a bit of piccolo. I couldn't find any other videos that told me the differences between the two besides this none. Very helpful.

I ended up making first chair in the all region band and had to play the piccolo for a region clinic and concert, and it was my first time ever playing the piccolo. Of course I practiced the music before hand but I had never played it with the band. I was terrified to play the flute soli in the march. for the entire first half of the day I was out of tune. I wanted to chunk it into a fire, but after lunch I came back and my director gave me some life saving tips and helped me tune. Once I figured it out I started to like it. Needless to say my first experience on the piccolo was really scary. I felt exposed and was sad when I didn't get to play the pretty flute part in the waltz, but I learned to love it within that 8 hour clinic day.

I don't play piccolo, I actually play the bass flute. But I did find this video very well made and informative. I loved his story about how he wanted to play the piccolo when he was twelve, I thought it was cute. I honestly think this is the best video you guys have put out there. Good job :)

Very interesting about the different pitches for the "same" note. I've never played the flute, and when I did play some instruments in high school my ear wasn't quite where it is now. I'm kind of hooked on this series right now.

I play the clarinet but I just switched to the piccolo.... The piccolo has the highest pitch and I love This video was helpful 😃👍
