I came to revisit the documentary after knowing about Mark's pass away. It is a big loss in the furry community, but it also helps to value those who today continue to make an effort to bring out the best side of this thing that so many of us love.

May he rest in peace, Mark.

I didnt know what to expect clicking this. As a non-fur who doesn’t mind the furry fandom, this has educated me in such a way that now when i see furries, it leaves a smile on my face. I guess i was enlightened by it. Thank you.

Edit: Awww thank you all so much <3, i loved reading your replies.

Rest in peace Mark Merlino aka Sy Sable. Thank you for documenting his part in the early days of the fandom recording it directly from him and doing it so well and touchingly! I can’t imagine the courage it took to start the first furry convention in 1989! His efforts helped create a world where I can be comfortable being me! I’m happy I met him & recognized him for what he did. A life well lived!

I know a lot of us are coming back here to pay our respects to Sy. It's so weird to see such an influential figure of the fandom just gone like that. My condolences to those affected and rest in peace, Sy.

My teenager sent this to me which made me ask them if they're a furry. I came from the narrow mindset of "it's a fetish thing" - THANK YOU for educating me on what it truly is. It's just a group of people who love the same thing. It's no different than the Whovian fandom that I'm a proud part of. I'm excited to learn more about this community and be able to be an ally and advocate for my kiddo 💜

This documentary is extremely healing for me.

There was a point in my life where I started to accept that I was a furry, but then quickly went back into my shell and started hating furries because I didn't want to be cringe.

When I first started to get into the furry Fandom, I started to accept that I might be trans. I didn't know what it was, but the Fandom made it seem like something that was just fine to be.

But watching videos saying furries were wrong made me close off. It stagnated my progression with my identity. I hid away and hated myself for it.

I found my own path. I figured out who I am, it just took a lot longer, and a lot more painful.

Thank you. I needed this video.

Looking at this I dont see a whole bunch of weirdos in furrsuits but a whole bunch of individuals that are fascinated by the unknown and willing to accept it. I am personally not into the fandom area but love the art this community has generated in which I believe that should these people meet a real anthromorphic creature they would appreciate it instead of shying away from it. Imagination is greater than knowledge.

Ik this probably will get buried in all the comments but it's something I need to get out of my chest.
I joined the fandom in 2015, i was probably around 13-14 at the time. I discovered it watching Telephone and it amazed me, I never knew I could make my own animal mascot and run around with it, it sparked something in my heart and in that instant I knew that I wanted to be part of it.
Then I started questioning my sexuality, found out I was Pansexual, and it scared me, in my country homosexuality is still not accepted as much.. and let's not even talk about my homophobic family..
The furry fandom was there for me, it always made me feel safe, it was a space where I could finally be myself without any fear of rejection, and that feeling only grew when I started making friends after my first furry convention, they're a really important part of me, and who I am.
I Guess what I wanna say, is thank you, thank you for making this documentary, it just hits so close to home that I actually cried while hearing this, if it was not for this fandom, idk where I would be, i'm studing animation because of this, i'm not afraid to show myself anymore because of the fandom.
Thanks a lot.. And to anyone who is reading this who's not a furry, everyone of us have our stories to tell, I hope when you see this you'll view the fandom in a different light, we are just people who enjoys being themselves, theres nothing wrong with that, and if you want to join us, we welcome you with open arms <3

I've never felt more proud of non-furries in the comment section. Yall deserve a medal, to sit through this to educate yourself? That's just amazing. Never been so proud of being a furry, best decision in my life to join this fandom. Now I have created fursuits, drawings and new friends 😁❤

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how wholesome Rod and Mark are? They bonded over a subculture that didn't fully exist yet, built it up from scratch, fell in love at (a time when being gay was straight up illegal), managed to stay together all this time and still throw furry parties at their house with their friends.

↑Relationship goals right here↑

I’m not personally a furry, but I love the fandom and love how inclusive everyone is in it. I think the concept of being able to put on a mask not to hide yourself but to show your true self is so empowering and truly something special. I always had a special place in my heart for fursuiters for their craftsmanship and the effort they put into their hobby, because it really does make me happy when people just unapologetically be themselves- especially the trans community in the fandom, because being able to try out pronouns and a new identity in the form of a fursuit is just incredible really. There’s no other fandom like it, and while I never found the appeal of being a big cuddly wolf I do understand how special it is to some people. I hope one day I can make it to a convention after quarantine, maybe wear a costume of my own, probably not one with fur since that’s not my style and a bit expensive but I’d love a chance to be who I truly am without judgement.
