Racism In the Furry Fandom

The Race Forward Model (as categorized by Boston University) Identifies racism under 4 levels. These levels include
Internalized Racism
Interpersonal Racism
Institutional Racism
Systematic Racism
Whilst typically seen as a complete left-wing mass of people the furry fandom has some people or contingents who share more bigoted ideals.
In this video I wanted to take a more fun approach by going over these 4 main forms of Racism as how they are seen within the fandom.

being a black guy, i can't say i've been exposed to much racism personally due to people in the fandom, but being referred to as an uncle tom by khord kitty still hit like a proverbial freight.

When I tell y’all I saw a screenshot of someone on tiktok telling a POC fursuiter to; “Go do something more fit for a black person like rapping and leave fursuiting to us whites ^_^” I am saying this genuinely. Like, holy shit. The screenshot was on Pinterest and my jaw actually dropped down to the floor- and just the freeze-frame of the POC fursuiter in suit just staring in utter disbelief that the commenter had the audacity to say that to them- you can’t even see the real persons face but the positioning of the fursuit head says it all-

15:44 the 60 year old woman went by T. rex. She loved cheetah print and died fighting to keep others safe. She was a family friend. Also that wasn’t the only person he shot- My aunt was also shot aswell as one other person. They where lucky to survive and are still healing mentally and physically to this day.

Had a guy get upset that I mentioned that I was black. He had a whole paragraph telling me that the furry fandom is just about cute fluffy animal people not race.

Crazy how a fandom all about fun and showing your ideal self has people who hates when you aren't what they want you to be.

I’m a black furry, and around the time I joined the fandom I was scared to express that side of me as it didn’t like a very welcoming idea, I hope there’s more that we can do to help people like me to come out of our shells and be more open with stuff amazing video btw❤

As a black furry artist, I deal with this

Does anyone else think all the problems we have in humanity are connected to humans in general?

It's not just one group

This is a really well-thought out explanation of the idea that minorities can be bigots amongst themselves. It's something that is really brushed under the rug in this fandom, and as a Black guy myself, it's super obvious to me when it rears it's ugly head. Though i still believe a lot of it comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding of inter-minority bigotry, and videos like these are a really important step of education which leads to mitigation. So in short, I appreciate you putting this together. Well done.

I've experienced mostly black folk being racist to us brown folk, specifically us Latinos. It is pretty shocking. You'd think by now everyone could just
Idk
Be normal
It's always shocking to see minorities attacking minorities when you'd think as minorities, we'd all be on the same side?

I got bullied so much because of simply saying im mixed-raced (Black/white) everyone else was nice but just that one person really hurt me and as much as it was only one person i left the fandom (also because of other occurences but this was one of them). Im not a furry anymore but to anyone here, please be nice be nice to everyone its just a color were all the same being, we can all make the same mistakes and we can all make the same achievements

Have a nice day/afternoon/night everyone<3

As a black furry artist, I often have my head in the sand when it comes to a lot of this. It isn't by choice, I do try to stay informed, but I can never find anything. Even with that, I'm lucky I haven't had any issues when people learn my race

I've experienced a bit of racism, if you can call it that, as people say I can't be a doberman because I'm white. Well, if I may quote kurrel the raven "nobody knows your gender or race, when you're a talking animal instead of a human face"

i'm not a furry but i love your videos (i really love watching people who are enthusiastic about stuff lol), and this video is a perfect example of why. you're doin good stuff for your fandom. i got my undergrad degree in history with a focus on lgbt stuff, specifically the stonewall riots and how the post-stonewall groups like the gay liberation front and gay activists alliance went from truly _truly_ radical groups fronted by people like you mentioned, to groups that were overwhelmed by like, white academic lesbians who hated trans women, and you totally nailed it with the facts on that part. truly, my Gay Ass Heart Swells.

being a furry is just a hobby, not a lifestyle and 'personality' we are just as human as anime fans, or doctors, or people into knitting.. it's all just a hobby

If you want to exclude people from a welcoming fandom then you don't belong here.

Im surpirised you bring up Scott and thank him, considering the controversey he had a while back. But then again FNAF has made a home for many LGBTQ+ people and minorities, including me.
